Distinguishing Characteristics:

Businesses come in every shape and size imaginable, and many of my clients are no exception.

While many of the businesses listed below would fall under the heading of "Food Service / Restaurants," we are reluctant to add such a category to this site.  We are not chefs.  We are not restaurateurs.  We are not familiar with various counties' health code regulations concerning food preparation.  If you own a restaurant and merely want to spice up your recipes and redesign your kitchen, we cannot (and should not) help you.  If, however, you need assistance with plate costing, portion control, menu design, sales techniques for servers, or a marketing strategy for your restaurant, then give us a call (and if you don't know what most of those terms are, you need to call us immediately).

Actual Client Results:

Stock Car Racetrack:  Annual concession revenues of $507,000 and $98,000 saved annually in food costs though improved food and liquor controls.  Alternatively, we were able to show the client that he could save $195,000 annually by outsourcing the food concessions to another business entirely.  It then became his choice whether to make the concessions part of his business profitable (and save only $98k per year), or to let another company do it and save $195k per year.  Lest you think this was an unrealistic comparison, we had the other company's offer in writing when we presented this choice to the client.  A perfect example of, Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

Daycare Facility:  Annual revenues of $657,000 and $66,000 saved annually in labor costs through optimized staffing levels and room capacity utilizations.

Bowling Alley & Bar:  Annual revenues of $484,000 and $124,000 saved annually through improved food and liquor controls.  We also discovered rampant employee theft and advised the owner accordingly.

Pharmacy:  Annual revenues of $5.2 million and $34,000 saved annually through revised budgeting process, plus another $39,000 saved annually through reduced staffing inefficiencies.

Emergency Vehicle Manufacturer:  Annual revenues of $3.1 million and $70,000 saved annually through revised budgeting processes and debt reduction, plus an additional $95,000 in net income added annually through restructuring the sales force.

Automotive Repair Shop:  Annual revenues of $800,000 and $19,000 saved annually through revised budgeting processes, plus an additional $120,000 in net income added annually through improved sales processes and inspections policies.

Restaurant (steakhouse):  Annual revenues of $1.5 million and $168,000 in net income added annually through improved server training and retention.

Telemarketing / Gold-Silver Broker:  Annual revenues of $22.4 million and $420,000 in net income added annually through improved margin controls, extensive sales training, and a restructuring of the entire sales team.  This project lasted six weeks and focused almost exclusively on working with the sales teams.

Avionics Installer:  Annual revenues of $1.2 million and $120,000 saved annually through elimination of overtime and improved labor productivity, plus another $50,000 in revenue improvements through selective billing rate increases.

Screen-Printing Company:  Annual revenues of $500,000 and $39,000 saved annually from a revised (yet more productive) advertising budget as part of a larger budgeting process.  Advertising is a critical expense for every business, but it must be budgeted appropriately.  There are also an almost endless number of ways to spend advertising money unproductively, and this client had been trying them all.

Restaurant:  Annual revenues of $1.3 million and $32,000 saved annually though proper liquor controls, plus another $9000 saved annually due to negotiations with vendors.  This project primarily involved QuickBooks setup and integration with the business' processes; therefore, the most valuable results were not immediate cost savings, but rather teaching the owner how to track expenses, create a budget, and make informed financial decisions for his business.

Irrigation Supply Company:  Annual revenues of $4.6 million and $66,000 saved annually by changing accounting firms, plus $46,000 saved annually from improved labor utilization by moving to a more performance-based compensation system.  In our experiences, we have discovered that some accounting firms charge rather excessive fees while providing relatively little actual service, and this client had just such an accountant.  Outsourcing all of these functions (except for end-of-year tax returns) to Paychex or ADP payroll services cost the company only $2600 per year, and the old accounting firm agreed to charge only $5k-$10k for end-of-year tax preparation.
